Discovering Structural and Computational Mechanics
Acronym: SIMPLAS
Name: Nonlinear, Nonsmooth Finite Element Software
Responsible: Pedro Areias
Description: The SIMPLAS finite element software was created some years ago by Prof. Pedro Areias and has been continuously developed by him. SIMPLAS can be freelydownlowded here. SIMPLAS is a Newton-Raphson-based Finite Element (FE) package dedicated to nonlinear and nonsmooth problems of solid mechanics. Finite strain behavior, realistic constitutive laws, frictional contact, nonlinear multiple-point constraints and fracture (both brittle, quasi-brittle and ductile cases) are simulated using extensively tested algorithms. Both quasi-static and inertial behavior is available. Spatial discretization is based on continuum (2D and 3D elements), beam and shell elements. We strongly favor incremental developments.
