Discovering Structural and Computational Mechanics
Acronym: MUBODyn
Name: Multibody Dynamics Analysis Program
Responsible: Jorge Ambrósio
Description: MUBODyn is a general multibody dynamics analysis code that allows for the development and simulation of complex mechanical systems. Its modelling capabilities include a very large collection of kinematic joints, including general path following constraints for curves, general contact elements with parametric geometries, linear and nonlinear force elements, tire models for tire-road interaction in road vehicle dynamics, wheel-rail Hertzian and non-Hertzian contact models for railway dynamics. The road and railways vehicle modelling or biomechanical human body modelling find on this code all the ingredients required for their analysis. Biomechanical models. Also applications in which a strong contribution required from contact mechanics, not only via the efficient contact detection but also but requiring a large collection of normal and friction contact force models find in this code suitable features. The code is supported by reliable numerical methods for the integration of ODE or for the solution of nonlinear equations involved in many of the practical applications. Flexible multibody systems have been also modelled and analyzed with success using MUBODyn being the complete library of kinematic joints developed for general multibody modelling also available when dealing with flexible bodies.
Applications: Multibody Dynamics; Machine and Mechanism Analysis; Road Vehicle Modelling and Analysis; Road Vehicle Modelling and Analysis; Aerospace Vehicles and Systems
